DevOps / Backend Engineer (Node.js / AWS)

Job description

Imagine yourself starting work every day with a wide smile, whichever hour fits you best, and have an impact through your work - think Heineken, PepsiCo, The Ocean Cleanup, ABB. That means over 100,000 individual users.

Imagine, as well, taking full ownership over the whole infrastructure of the CI/CD pipeline, so it can scale as we grow, as Swipeguide's DevOps engineer. We will trust you fully with it, including with streaming our tests and deployment process in Jenkins, AWS and Docker. This way, the rest of the team can focus on delivering features, fixing bugs and maintaining the codebase - or you can contribute to that too. Your supportive colleagues will be there for you; we are proud of how well we collaborate while keeping the team small.

Right down your lane? See if you love a couple of these technical challenges we have for you:

  • Scaling infrastructure to customers all over the world, including the US and Asia. We will need your support to maintain and optimise several server instances as we scale.
  • Automate: testing, measuring performance, handling issues
  • Owning the infrastructure and maintaining platform uptime and performance
  • Improving the performance of our data warehouse and pipelines
  • Optimizing application for maximum speed and scalability
  • Finding these flexible solutions while keeping in mind low infrastructure costs.
  • Ensuring security of our platform and sensitive customer data
  • Understanding accessibility and security compliance
  • Management of hosting environment, including database administration and scaling an application to support load changes

Are you a backend geek? We love for all backend-driven developer to contribute to both the application and the infrastructure. Our stack includes:

React, Node.js, GraphQL, Postgresql, Redshift, AWS, Docker, Jenkins, React Native.

Let me give you the bigger picture of who we are and what we can do together:

SwipeGuide is on a mission to simplify the world by making any task easier to do. You know those long, confusing how-to instructions, like you might get with a coffee machine? Imagine that you work on an assembly line in a busy factory, and you need to use bad instructions to do your job well. No thanks! We're developing an intuitive cloud software (SaaS) to fix that.

SwipeGuide allows global companies to build and share visual step-by-step work instructions with their workforce on multiple devices. We all know that a digital future is unavoidable, and we’re providing the software essential for an effective digital transformation.

It works: we started with 5 people in 2016. We now have just less than 20 full-time employees, 100,000 platform users, and we’ve built over 2500 user guides. We're a stable startup that is growing, and our groundbreaking work instruction platform is being used across the globe by some of the world's most recognisable brands.

We mainly serve our clients via a subscription-based platform and are proud to have made clients like The Ocean Cleanup, Coca-Cola and Kia work simpler and better.

‘What’s in it for me?’, I hear you ask.

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely. Want to start work at 11 am? Cool with us.
  • A truly collaborative team to help broaden your DevOps and full-stack horizons with.
  • A chance to learn from other people’s mistakes - we celebrate failures each Thursday.
  • Possibly new friends. Not to brag, but you would work with super passionate, kind and sharp people of diverse backgrounds and nationalities.

All you need to know about the team for now is…

...we are musical! We can set up a jam session, if you’re into it. You can also meet the kite surfer, the yoga lover, the pastry chef, the bearded one, the ping pong champion, the social butterfly, and someone who owns hundreds of sneakers.

You will get to work in an inclusive and open-minded tech team of 5 true problem solvers, including our CTO Sue that was internally promoted this year. It goes without saying for us, we have a flat hierarchy and we hire people not resumes.

Our diversity and inclusion can be seen in all we do - it’s truly who we are! I’m talking about multiple nationalities, varied cultural backgrounds and a strong female contingent in our leadership team (CEO and CTO).

Here's what we are looking for:

Are you, by any chance, a DevOps engineer who wishes to develop more into a backend or full-stack developer? Sweet, we can take you there! Or are you a backend developer that wants to grow into DevOps? You have the opportunity to learn here.
